Hematopoietic Stem Cells

Hematopoietic stem cells are undifferentiated mesodermal derivatives able to divide repeatedly and differentiate into mature blood cells.

These pluripotent stem cells are the single precursor cells that is capable of giving rise to all blood cell lineages and some cells in every tissue of the body.1

Hematopoietic stem cells are rare, and they express a characteristic set of surface markers.

However, the morphology of these cells is not unique. They resemble mature circulating blood lymphocytes.

There are two pathways of hemopoeisis.

Myelopoiesis

Lymphopoiesis
